Zenph® Studios presented
the world premiere of
Art Tatum: Piano Starts Here
at the world-famous Apollo Theater.
June 19, 20, and 22, 2008
Review of the show!
This dramatic new production centers on character
"Doc Hanley"
as he closes his Harlem jazz club after years of music,
laughter, and love.
Through Doc, we remember and celebrate the
life of jazz great Art Tatum.
Doc is played by famed actor
Paul Butler,
in the spirit of
one-man shows like Hal Holbrook's portrayal of Mark Twain.
The show features a dozen Zenph
Re-performances
of Tatum's
works onstage with a real grand piano,
using Zenph's state-of-the-art,
must-see, must-hear technology.
About actor
Paul Butler
(you may know him as Det. Clemmons on "Crime Story")
About director
Tre Garrett
Zenph is donating proceeds from the three shows to
The National Jazz Museum
in Harlem, part of the
Smithsonian Institute Affiliations Program.
Half of the total proceeds from the Tatum/Apollo
performances are earmarked to help the funding necessary
for the Museum’s move to a
permanent home. TNJMH will be moving into the newly refurbished
Victoria Theater complex in the months to come.
